Minimal Essential Coverage
Starting in 2016 all insurers and self-funded group plan sponsors are required to commence reporting on individuals covered under their insured health plans, starting with coverage in 2015. This requirement helps the IRS administer compliance with the individual mandates.

The way the IRS identifies individuals are through Social Security and Tax Identification numbers.

With using these number they will make reasonable attempts to obtain this sensitive data for those individuals who are not on file.

Sitting A Health Risk?

About 80% of Americans work non-active jobs, in which they sit all day. Long times of sitting can lead to certain health problems.

Some of those are obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and stiffness, headaches, and sluggishness.

Try to avoid sitting all day and move around to help improve your health. Some things that you can do are:

- Stand while your talking on the phone or watching television

- Try a walking or standing meeting at work

-Make an attempt to try to stand up and stretch every hour

- Add some extra steps to your daily routine

- Take the stairs whenever possible

- Consider walking or biking to local areas around you.

Claims Made Policies - When to Report

All claims should be reported promptly to fulfill the requirements of the policy and to allow the insurance company sufficient time to investigate, inspect, defend and settle the claim.

In most cases the date of the "occurrence" is the determining factor.  However, for "Claims Made" policy forms, the trigger is when the claim is made.  The factors to consider are:

  • when the event occurred
  • when the claim is actually made, usually in writing via a letter, email, receipt of a Summons and Complaint, etc.

The trigger dates for coverage are:

  • Retroactive Date - The oldest date that the event could have occurred to be covered & is usually the effective date of the coverage when first written.  However, some policies are written with "full prior acts".
  • Pending & Prior Date - usually found on a policy providing "full prior acts" to avoid defending any prior or current claims.

Once a claim is made against an insured, the insured should not begin to defend the action, the claim should be promptly forwarded to the insurance carrier to avoid  prejudicing the rights of the insurance company, as this could result in a Declination of Coverage.

Some types of policies that are usually written on a "Claims Made" form are:

  • Directors & Officers Liability
  • Employment Practices Liability
  • Cyber Liability
  • Professional Liability
  • Errors & Omissions Coverage
  • Employee Benefits Liability

"Do You Own a Watercraft?"

Something to think about before heading out to open water. With the recent harsh winter fading into memory, boat owners are turning their attention to the open water.  Boating should be a carefree adventure, so before you embark, make sure your insurance is up to date and covers any situation.

Do you have a boat or a yacht?

Generally vessels up to 26 feet long are considered boats, while larger vessels are called yachts.  Yacht coverage tends to be broader and more specialized than that of boat coverage, because they travel farther has more unique exposures.  You may think that your homeowner policy covers your smaller craft, however this could be a costly mistake.  Many homeowner policies limit or don't cover marine specific risks such as salvage work, wreck removal, pollution or environmental damage.

Annual review of coverage?

This is a good time to make sure you have sufficient liability insurance, including uninsured boaters liability, coverage for your personal effects, medical payments, salvage, as well as towing and assistance in case of an emergency.

Have a safe and happy summer!

Summertime is in the Area
Now that we are in the middle/end of Summer, everyone has been outside enjoying the sun and going to the beach. With being outside though your skin is at risk. We all know that the skin is the body's largest organ. It protects the body against heat, sunlight, injury, and infection. But UV rays from the sun and tanning beds cause the most damage to the skin and can lead to different types of skin cancer.

To Help reduce the risks of Skin Cancer here are some tips to follow:
  • Put lotion in motion
    • Sunscreen protects against UV Rays. The sun can harm the skin in 15 minutes. SPF 15 or higher is recommended.
  • Apply Sunscreen correctly
    • Make sure you are putting enough sunscreen on, and apply it on all exposed skin. Average adult needs 1 oz. You should apply it 30 minutes before going outside.
  • Environmental Awareness
    • UV radiation is strong in high altitudes and in warmer, southern climates.
  • Timing is everything
    • The sun is at its highest point around 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. That means the rays are at their strongest, and it's recommended that you stay in the shade.
  • Knowing UV numbers
    • The UV index ranges from 1(low) to 11(high). Always check the UV index provided by the Weather Service on local media.
  • Cover Up
    • Wearing sunglasses and protective clothing outside will help block UV Rays.
  • Avoid the tanning booth and sunlamps
    • Using Ultraviolet lights from the tanning beds can cause skin cancer . if you want to look tan consider using a self-tanning product or spray. Just make sure to keeping using sunscreen with it.
  • Watch Yourself
    • If you begin to notice new or changing spots on your skin go see your doctor. The earlier skin cancer is detected, the more likely it will respond to treatment.

Succeed with Social Media
Social Media has a wide and powerful reach.
The best way for you to capitalize on the Social Media trend is by focusing on marketing efforts. Many have capitalized on using Social media and have seen improvements and interest in their services. The reason for that is it allows you to post positive things that will oppose the negatives issues. It also provides a reach out for clients instead of them searching for you.

Here are some tips to consider when you begin to build your social campaign:

- Don't straight try to sell your service/product

-Share stories and useful information to attract an audience

-Post videos, images, and some personal customer stories to add interest.

- Identify the target audience. Join the Social Media group that is relevant to your business.

-Write fun headlines lines and add effective pictures. It allows you to attract and engage your audience. Using bland/basic headlines and no pics will disengage your audience and make them lose interest.

- Be patient as it takes time to build a following online.

- Social Media Marketing requires a commitment of time and resources. You need to monitor it on a daily or hourly basis. This way it will allow responses to client, customers, and interested parties
